Bebo at Must Explain His Actions in Court..What is probably the first case of bigamy in the Jackson Circuit Court, is now on file in the records of the Clerk’s Office, Chris Bebout being the defendant in the case.tie was arrested at Seymour, last Thursday, upon a warrant sent up from Sparksville, charging him with bigamy, and was taken to Justice Beem’s court at Medora, Friday, where he waived preliminary examination and was bound over to the circuit court in the Bum of $500. Failing to give bond for his appearance he was brought to Browastown and placed in jail.Bebout had been in the vicinity of Sparksville for several months past buying hoop-poles, during which time he formed the acquaintance of Miss Kate Barly. He represented himself as asingle man and on Friday, April 10th, was?married to Miss Early. Soon afterthe marriage it waslearndd that he had a wife and four children living near Houston, which resulted in bis arrest.Bebout does not deny having been previovsly married but says that he had not lived with his first wife since June, 1889, since which time he had been oat of the state most of the time and was under the impression that she had secured a divorce.However, his actions when securing a marriage license were very suspicious to say the least. He had the license issaedtin the names of Chris. Berbofctand9Kate EasJej-, stating that they were for another party, and that “Berbott”nad started with him but stopped at Medora and commenced drinking, and he came on without him. He was required to make the usual affidavit that Chris. “Berbott” and Kate *‘Easley” were both of lawful age, that he knew of no lawful reason why they should not be married and that he (Bebout) was a disinterested party. He then placed his own signature (Lum Bebout) to the affidavit.ftThe defendant’s full name is Christopher Columbus Bebout. He is about 28 years of age and was born and raised in Salt Creek township.
