Main Walls And Roof Of Old1.7?Charles B, Heckman, 109 Arch Ave., SE, Who Drew Plans for Remodeling Structure Many Years 1 Ago, Reports General Plan Not InvolvedThe main Avails atfd roof of the Baldwin residence in Lincoln Way, E, which was bequeathed by the late' Mrs. Aphie Steese Baldwin to the board of trustees of the local library board more than a year ago for use as a museum or historical building, are the same as they were when the'structure was first erected for James Duncan, founder of Massillon, in the opinion of Charles B. Heckman, of 109.Arch ave., SE, who nearly 25 years ago drew plans for the most extensive remodeling the house has undergone. It was in 1908 that Mr. Baldwin decided to remodel the house, one of the oldest in this city, and Mr. Heckman was selected as architect. Under the -personal supervision of! Mrs. Baldwin he made all plans for the work and is thoroughly familiar with the changes made in the building.Rather extensive changes weremade but. all were accomplished in such a manner that the main walls and roof of the building were not changed and it is Mr. Heckman’s belief that the exterior of the residence is practically the same as itWas. the day work on the erection of the structure was completed many years ago.Rooms Relocated The principal change made on the first floor interior of the building was the relocating of rooms. Until the remodeling was done the kitchen and dining room were located in the southern part of the first floor with the living room and others to the north of the main hall. The changes involved the.relocating of the kitchen and dining room to the north and the other rooms to the south. All this was accomplished by a few minor changes in the partitions, the main walls being untouched.was built but the old stairway was saved, the room changes situating it so that it offered a way upstairs from the kitchen part of the home.Attic ChangedPrior to 3908 the attic of the building was used solely for storage purposes, When the remodeling was done several rooms were built in it. This also necessitates nothing more thanthe erection of a few partitions. Dormer windows were installed in the front and rear of the building to furnish light for these rooms..Considerable change was made ua the basement to provide for a laundry and other rooms but again the erection of partitions was the only thiftg necessary. In the exterior a few changes also were made but none of them necessitated the changing of the original structure. New stairs were put up in the rear, an entrance-way was provid-A new stairway to the second floor ec^ apd a,Por,r?'1 Avas erected.; Originally there had been a porch
