It swept on across the Louis Veerkainp ranch and to the Sam Winje place, hop-skipping over the ground as though following some previously charted course.On the Winje place, two large pine trees were uprooted by the mysterious force of the storm. The wind cme during the night and blew from the southwest toward the northeast.Old Storm RecalledIn 1897, according to older residents, a similar wind swept through the section on a course leading from northwest to southeast. A large cherry tree on the Veerkamp ranch was hoisted out of the ground and the Veerkamp barn was so severely twisted and damaged that it had to be torn down.A large number of Pleerville people are reported to have gone of the Gold Hill District to see the schoolhouse, which had been hoisted off its foundations leaving only the floor platform, with the school organ sitting there untouched by the storm.-o--abandoned the fight and returned to Aberdeen to face charges. The trial is renorted as having been set for some time In June.Brown has been indicted by a Grand Jury In Grays Harbor County in connection with his representations of his financial condition and the financial condition of companies in which he was interested, when he obtained loans form the Hayes Hayes bank, which has since failed.This Bootlegger Draws$500 Fine for 10 GallonsThe Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Null and Mrs. A. S. Fox were at Jackson Wednesday to attend funeral services for the Rev. Edwin Brown, for many years pastor of the Methodist church there. The Rev Brown succumbed to | a stroke.Andrew Morogna, of Sacramento, pleaded quilty Wednesday to possession of 10 gallons of assorted hooch and was fined $500 before Justice of the Peace J. W. Shanklin.Morogna had been arrested early In the week when, officers charge, they found him about to deliver the hooch to a local establishment.Immediately following the arrest Morogna, officers raided the establishment of Roy Slick, in Quartz Alley and Dan McCIeod.Slick was taken before Police Judge Anderson at 2 o’clock Thursday and was fined $500 or given the alternative of serving a jail term at the rate of $3 per day.-o-Mr. and Mrs, Charles Leventon were in town Wednesday from Grizzly Flat.Henry Lefevre received a Sunday visit from his brother George, and sisters, Marie and Alice, of San Rafael.
