NAHA, Okinawa (USCAK)—The U.S. Army Ryukyu Islands Engineers Tuesday announced that extensive engineering, works soon will be undertaken to restoretyphoon-damaged roadways, drainage ditches and culverts.An engineer from the Government of the Ryukyu Islands will he assigned to assist in planning the project with the post en-. gineers.The repairs will be made with an allocation of $100,000 out of i funds for restoration of military roads, requested immediately after typhoon Emma hit the islands, „The work, requiring a force of an additional 200 to 300 people on a temporary basis, will give priority to damaged areas along Highway No. 1 and Highway No. 13.The three typhoons which lashed the islands last fall—Sarah, Charlotte and Emma—brought record rainfalls and caused serious damages to roads, drainage ditches,culverts and land 'areas.
