NINEHusband pleads guiltyto taking life of wifeRobert Leroy Harding yesterday pleaded guilty to a general charge of murder in the death of his wife.Harding’s degree of guilt will be determined by Judge William R. Balph at a later hearing.Harding, 35, of Savannah Road was charged with criminal homicide and murder in the first degree in the Nov. 25, 1980, death of his wife Betty Ann. Mrs. Harding, 31, was found dead at her home at 8 E. Rainey Ave., South New Castle Borough. She had been shot in the back with a shotgun.Assistant district attorney Paul W. Johnson presented a summary of the events of Nov. 24 and 25.the back seat.Prior to the plea, some confusion arose surrounding terms of a plea bargain agreed to by Harding’s court-appointed attorneys Carmen F. Lamancusa and Peter E. Homey and District Attorney Donald E. Williams. Williams said he had evidence to prove murder in the first degree but he agreed that the defense had evidence which would deduce the charge to murder in the third degree. Williams also recommended a 10 to 20 year prison term.Lamancusa argued that this wasnot a part of the plea bargain.Lamancusa said Williams had agreed not to present evidence for murder in the first degree and said there would be no jail term recommendation.Plea terms were finally worked out by the attorneys and the plea was entered and accepted.The judge determined that all evidence would be presented, at the degree of guilt hearing, but that the district attorney would make no recommendation for sentence.TT I
