OHIO MARSHAL SHOOTS BANDITBank Robber Killed, Officer Wounded In Gun Fight At Luckey.By The Asmm lut'd PrtMBOWLING GREEN, O., Sept. 20 The willingness of Town Marshal Bon Stone to “shoot It out with a hank rohber frustrated a holdup of the Farmers’ Savings hank in Luckey, near here, and today the rohber was dead, Stone was recovering from his wounds,and a man suspected of being the robber’s accomplice was in police custody.A watchful merchant, W. H. Swan, gave Stone the tip which enabled him to confront the robl»er, later identified as G. It. Saunders, a 38-year-old barber, of Columbus Grove, O., aa Saunders left the bank.Stoue ordered Saunders jto surrender. The robber answered with a shot and the marshal opened fire with a shotgun. A dozen volleys w-ere exchanged, and Stone was hit in the leg. Crumpling to the sidewalk. he fired again and Saunders fell, the slugs struck his chest, inflicting fatal wounds, the shotgun shells riddling the wad of bills, more than $300. which Saunders had taken from the bank.Hearing the shots, the robber's companion, who had been waiting in an automobile, hurriedly drove away. Police at Toledo, several hours later, detained a man for questioning in the case.Saunders had entered the bank, ordering Cashier H. G. Helm, and two patrons. Martin Brinker of Luckey and George W. Graham Jr., Cincinnati insurance agent, to “stick ’em up.”
