A NEGRO NAMED LACEY MITCHELL OF FIVE FORKS SHOT BY WHITE MEN—A negro Lacey Mitchell, living near Barwick at Five Forks was shot and fatally wounded by white men with handkerchiefs over their faces Saturday night. He died in the hospital today the wound having been made by a bullet through the stomach. The negro was shot down without provocation in his home and in the presence of members of the family.There have been several arrests and the sheriff is conducting a thorough investigation. This negro was a star witness in a case made against two white men for an alleged attempted assault on a negro woman. The whole matter will probably be in shape for presentation to the grand jury next month.
