Court Adjourns After Record Number Of CasesTotal Of 225 Criminal Cases Disposed Of During Two-Week Term At BlountvilleBlountville—lt;SplJ—One of the longest terms in the history of the Sullivan County Circuit Court ended Friday at 5:30 p. m. when Judge Shelburne Ferguson adjourned the September term after two weeks of lengthy trials. Judge Ferguson gees next to Greencvillc where on October 6, he will convene the Greene County Circuit Court.A total of 225 criminal eases, ranging from murder to publicdrunkenness, were disposed of in*$- - - ..... .----- —the courthouse here during the Sep- Miles Booker, R i n gspor t, 10years, assault with intent to rape an eight-year-old girl.Leonard Dixon, Kingsport, five years, robbery.Judge Ferguson granted Jim Bracken a r.ew trial in the fatal shooting of Ernest P^yans on Long Island in May, 1046. Bracken was convicted of involuntary manslaughter at the May term of court by a,jury which recommended sentence of five years. Ke originally had been charged with murder. The new trial is scheduled for the January, 19*18, term.Biggs Found Innocent A jury Friday directed that the amount of a peace warrant for Milton H. Fleenor of Hillcrest remain the same as that previously set in Ccncral Sessions Court at the request of Mary .Dcvault. Carl Riggins of Kingsport was acquitted of. a public drunkeness charge.Shortly after noon Friday a directed verdict of innocent was returned for P.oy Biggs of Lynn Garden, charged with felonious assault in the shooting of his next door neighbor. Virgil Ball, last June 29.Biggs testified the tw.o had words and that he shot at Ball when he saw a pistol in the lattcr’s hands.
