Land Buyer Charged.ALLEGED FALSE STATEMENT.Henry Venus Carter, hotelkeeper of Lake Grace, appeared before Mr. H. D. Moseley, K.M., iii the Xortham Police Court, ou September 10th, charged with having made a false statement in connection with improvements on his block of land, Xingham Location 261.The complaint set out that Carter was purchasing a block and that in a statement made before the Postmaster at Lake Grace he set out that improvements to the value of £113 had been made on this block, whereas only about five acres had been cleared and no railing had been done. Detect ive-Sergeant Cameron prosecuted. and Mr. M. M. Lavan appeared for the defendant.Denis McCrann. postmaster at Lake Grace, stated that he witnessed the defendant sign the declaration complained of on September 7, 1927,Philip Crowe, blacksmith, of Wagin, testified to having been engaged by the defendant to carry out certain work on the block. On September 7, when the defendant made the declaration. there were approximately 116 acres of scrub cut and rolled but not burned. He also cleared about five or six acres. None of the land was ploughed or fallowed.Henry Edward .Knapp, who owned the farm adjoining Carter's block, said that he had a contract from Carter tn rake and roll 80 acres on block 264 at a price of 15/- per acre. He could swear that 115 acres were not cut and rolled on September 7.Albert Edward Danes said that he did some ploughing on the block In question about the end of October. Carter asked him to do the work because Knapp let him down.After further evidence Carter was committed to stand his trail at the next sitting of the Criminal Court in Perth. Flail was allowed.
