Friday, Sept. 27. 1948_IAS VtGAS SUN 5NLV Chamber Hears Hughes ExecBy SUSAN FORD NLV CorrespondentBarton Evans, director of public affairs for the Hughes Aircraft Company, was guest speaker yesterday at the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce meeting.Speaking on the company’s four-year-old Active Citizenship Campaign, he said it was organized to overcome political apathy among employes, to stimulateemployee interest in governmentaffairs on a non-partisan basis, to encourage employees to become engaged in politics, and to give employes the opportunity to know both sides of the issue.The four basic programs of the campaign included registering employes, providing political education to employes, promoting and facilitating contributions to candidates from employes andconducting a strong “get-out-to-vote” campaign.Political contributions thisyear have already amounted to$100,000 from the 25,000 employes 95 per cent will vote, according to Evans.But the campaign has not beenrestricted to California and Arizona. It is now underway in Nevada.
