Shotting Scrape.Word reached this city last night that a shooting scrape had occurred between John L. Jones and James Howe of Newbern, either at thatplace or on the road between hereand there. Both were in this city up to about 6:30 p. m. and the news of the trouble was brought here soon after, hence it is likely the trouble may have occurred on theroad out from this city. Jones left Dr. Otto's drug store about 6:30 with a package of drugs for Dr.Norton of Petersville.One story failed to give any cause for the frouble while another was that the trouble was concerning . some ’worn an.It is said five shots exchanged by the belligerents. Three of these were fired by Jones, at Howe, but neither took effect, Howe fired two shots at Jones, both of which took effect, one passing through his left arm and the other striking his right breast and glancing off. The extent of the injury • could not be learned. All effort was made to reach both Newbern, and Petersville by telephone, but without avail.
