About thirty-seven companies of regulators were formed in Norlheru Indiana, such as Angola Regulators, Albion Rangers, Allen Reconuoiterers, Jilutfton Regulators, DeKalb County Horse Thief Detecting Society, Eel River Regulators, Fremont Raugers, Independent Self-Protectors, Leesburg Horse Company, Plymouth Regulators, Wolf Lake Sharpers, Warsaw Horae Thief Company, etc.On the 16th of January, 1858, the Regulators had a grand parade at Kendall ville. About three hundred men on horseback moved down the streetsof that town, bearing mottoes and banners of various descriptions, one banuer containing a painting representing the capture ot a criminal, aud over the pic-tu-e were the words: **No expense tothe country.’'At this uprising of the people the rascals were surprised and somewhat alarmed. On the 17th day ot January, the day following the parade, Air. James McConnell, a prominent member ot the Noble County invincibles, with a posse of litteen men made the fust capture at Rome City, and ihe following men were arrested: Miles C. Payne, George McDougal, Sol Stout,Mai co mb Burnham, Davis French,Joseph Ilall, William Hall and E.Kessler. On the 23d Kessler made a confession which revealed mauy important facts. Upon examination McDougal was found guilty of murder and was hanged on Jauuary 26,1858. The hanging took place at Ligonier,In Noble county, a tew miles west of Kessler station, where the recent raid took place. McDougal, in his confession, stated that he had practiced his thieving and distribution of counterfeit money as far east as the state of
