Me-’ then forced the deputy tofrom Niles whero he handcuffed Gardner to s tree after first forcing hlra to hail a passing motorist, Le Roy Clemann of Niles.Taking Clemar.n’s yellow convertible, McLeod again headed for Chicago. But Slate Troopers Andrew MutU and Patrick Lyons spotted him near Galien. One of the , officer's shots struck the car and it swerved from the road.McLeod decided to shoot it cut. Only when his pistol wag empty and he was bleeding badly from 1 three bullet wounds did he aurren-The troopers took him to Niles hospRal where he died about 8 a.m. Before he died he told them he was an ex-convict.Por.tiac police said McLeod was sent to the State Vocational School for Boys at Lansing as a juvenile delinquent when he was 15 years old. He was convicted of reckless driving last March. Pontiac records showed no adult offense but it was believed he had been sent to prison for a crime committed in Lansing.State police said he had $3,947 when captured.him to a point five miles, der.
