Officers call to mind that Louis Fava, the man tv lieved to be dead, was a star witness in the trial of Robert Vanella here about oneI;i:year ago.Vanella was charged with killing R. Orisie. an Italian, and Fava testified as a witness for the prosecution that he say Vanella leave the room where the murder was com-!, mitted and that Vanella warned him to stay in the house and say nothing about the matter under penalty of death. Vanella is now in the statepenitentiary, and it is believed by officers that his friends may be re-1 sponsible for the death of the man who was one of the witnesses and whose testimony sent him there. It is known that Fava was in fear of assassination and took the witness stand against his fellow countryman with much reluctance.
