Man Is JailedA 32-year-old Madison man charged with assaulting a policeofficer was found guilty yesterday in Painesville Municipal Court, fined $100 and sentenced to 15 days in jail.Thomas F. Jones, of 6510Lake Road was charged byMadison Twp. police for assaulting Patrolman John Gock-erell on July 28Reportedly, Gockerell had stopped the Jones’ vehicle for a faulty muffler when he was attacked by the motorist.A second charge of driving while intoxicated was reduced to reckless operation by requestor Scuffleof the Lake County prosecutor’soffice. f VfJones was fined $50 on the reckless operation charge and was found guilty and fined for having an insufficient muffler.Nine of the 15-day jail sentence for assaulting an officer were suspended.
