RAISE DEBATEDAustin Police Dared To Quit In Pay DisputeAUSTIN*.CAP)— City Manager Bob Tinstman says if local po-lice are ''disgusted and angry” at the amount of a proposed pay liike, 'Then maybe the best thing for them to do would be toleave.”If any of them are so frustrated they can’t wait a few more weeks, Til sign their resignation papers right now,” Tinstman said.The city manager made his remarks Tuesday after a columnist reported police were disgusted and angry” that a promised raise of at least $50 a month was not larger. Douglas Eastman, president of the Austin Police Association, was quoted as saying It should he three times that much.”Tinstman said as soon as a wage study was completed, police salaries, now starting at $450 a month, would be raised by at least $50 before Christmas.If we’ve got a lot of prima ionnas and babies over there (at the police station) who are going to be disgusted at this point, then maybe the best thing for them to do would be to I leave,” he said.
