3 0--- - ]The Governor this morning respited for 30' days Silas Morris, who with Amierson Sbiflett • and Mrs. Lawson was condemned to be executed! for the murder of David G. Lawson. It is skid 1 that Shi he It has inside a coufessiou exonerating Morris. Anyhow a strong appeal was made to the Governor Saturday and he Usoughtit well to give Morris thirty days in order that what-ever testimony may be developed may be considered before'it is too late. Shiflett will be executed, to-morrow (Tuesday) aud Mrs. Lawson is sentenced lo be executed ou the 30th October. The murder of Air. Lawson by the conspirators (Mrs. Lawson, Shifleitand Morris) was oue of the most cold* blooded on record and public sentiment in Rockingham Is strongly egainst the whole party—so much i so, that many people say that Governor Kern- j per ought to “let cbe hanging go on aud iuves-j t.icralfi afterwards.” i ■ '
