Moscow Man Charged With ManslaughterJohn A. Broadwater, 23, Committed For Action of Grand Jury In Death Of Glerin MerrbaiighJohn A. Broadwater, 28, of Moscow, was committed to the county jail today in default of $1,000 bond for action of the October grand jury on a charge of manslaughter in the death of Glenn “Mickey” Merrbaugh,. 16, also of Moscow, whose body was found in the woods September 16 after he had been missing since the day before.Broadwater’s arrest followed an unusual series of events. After Merrbaugh’s body had been discovered by John O. Meta and Broadwater death was attributed to a fracture of the frontal bone of the head, surmised to have happened when he fell against a jagged rock. Dr, Linne h. Corson, deputy county medical examiner, issued a verdict of accidental death.'After the funeral services for Merrbaugh lest Tuesday a son-in-law of Ezekiel Ayers, the boy’s guardian, was examining the dead youth’s clothing. He found a bullet hole in the hunting enp the . youth had worn on the day he went hunting. and which had escaped detection because it had entered just at the edge of a thick seam.After State's Attorney Morgan C. Harns was advised of the new clue the boy’s body was exhumed and an autopsy by Dr. Corson revealed that either a .22 or 25 caliber bullet had struck Merrbaugh between theeyes and lodged in the back of skull.At the first examination the boy's skull was so badly crushed and clotted with blood that the ’hole caused by the bullet was not visible. Probing of the wound did not reveal any object at the first examination and it was assumed he died from the skull' fracture.Broadwater admitted to State's Attorney Morgan C. Harris, after questioning Saturday afternoon, that he was in the woods about 7:15 p. m. September 15 and shot what he “thought was a squirrel” about 150 feet away. When he ran to the spot, and saw the Merrbaugh boy he became frightened and ran home. Broadwater is married and the father of two children. He has been employed at the Kelly-Spring-
