Swift lost a good cow, as also did Mr. Ctem-[ uioos, the present complainant.Mr. Clemmons had strong suspicions that his animal had been taken by the Smith gang, and began to trace her up by making inquiries and examining the stock recently purchased by hide dealers. His search proved successful, for he found the bide of his critter at Andover, In possession of a dealer there who had bought It only ! last Saturday.The evidence which Mr. Clemmons had was strong enough to get a war-raut, which was served on the tirto as stated above. The prisoners: last night occupied the lockup, and thismorning was taken before Justicer •Nichols. They gave bail for their appearance at one o’clock to-morrow, for examination, Mrs. Alien Smith giving satisfactory surety for them,This in not the first time this particular branch of the Smith family have been charged with transactions that were decidedly crooked, and if the evidence produced to-morrow, proves them guilty of the ohayge, they should, as they probably will, get the full benefit of tlie law.
