U.Several citizens of Corning, have been enjoined by County Attorney Stanley from selling intoxicating liquor. The papers were issued last Friday and placed in the sheriff’s hands for service; Mr- Stanley, will not at this time divulge any of the evidence against the parties enjoined, as the matter will come before the grand jury at the next term of court, in October. Suffice it to say that the evidence is sufficient in his judgment to warrant the action taken, ana-at his direction the court has issued injunctions against the following parlies: Greeii Freeman!Lewis .Washington, Harry Tyler, Charles Darrah, Carl McMurray, William H. Williams, Xewt Bristow.We understand that some of the parties claim that they have not sold liquor; that they have “chipped in with others in the purchase of liquor, and wet .goods have come in one person’s nairfe, who secured the package and the others took their share when lie opened the box or package as the case might be. The injunctions, however, are specifically to restrain them from sellin gliqufcr under any and all conditions, and it remains to be seen whether the claim above stated will not be recognized as'a sale‘' ' “ • *. ' • . ,• Under the ruling of Judge McPherson, of the United State's court.'published elsewhere in this issue of our paper, the liquor business in Iowa will be very much mixed. According to Mr. McPherson's ruling the pro-:hibitory* amendment is still in forcein this state, and no one has a right to ; sell liquor within its boundaries, whether he have a license under thvs | mulct law or not. At any rate, the county attorney is doing the right thing-in going .after the matter in Corning, and public opinion will sustain him in the endeavor to upholdthe law.
