Special: The romance of a wealthy young man and a girl of remarkable beauty was ended Sunday in a shocking manner on Lover’s lane, at Cedar Lake, a pretty summer resort south of this city, by bullets in the heart of the girl and the head of the man.■Harry Hohman, once the accepted suitor of Ida Taylor Jeanette, shot and killed her Sunday afternoon and then turned the revolver on his own person, killing himself instantly. Young Hoh-man is 24 years old. His grandparents were the founders of Hammond. An uncle is a state senator, another was formerly mayor of this city. He possesses much wealth in his own right. He met Ida Taylor, aged 19, daughter of A1 Taylor, township supervisor, one day last summer at Benyon's Hotel, where he was waiting on the table in a crush of guests. The couple were wildly enamored with each other, but love’s path was anything but smooth for Hohman. The fickle Miss Taylor had other beaux, among whom was Charles Jeannette, a handsome saloon keeper. But so ardent was Hohman in his suit that he at last won out and Ida promised to be his bride. It is asserted that the wedding day was to be next month. Hohman was called to Oklahoma to look after business interests. No sooner was Hohman out of the country thffi Jeannette again laid seige to his sweetheart, and was able by his persistence to lead her to the altar within three days. The marriage took place three weeks ago.Hohman was notified of the jilting, and sefit word hack that he had no more interest in life. He returned post haste to Cedar Lawe, reproached thegirl and she told friends that he hadthreatened to shoot her. A sensational story of the meeting and threats were published in a county newspaper. With this clipping in his pocket Hohman went to Cedar Lake. The Jeannettes, husband and wife, had just driven there from Steger, 111. Mrs. Jeannette went for a walk, and must have met the rejected suitor, for two shots were heard and the dead bodies of the couple, not five feet apart, were found on the grass.
