KARATE EXPERTGETS 6 MONTHSCARMEL — Thomas D. St Charles, the 28 year old karate instructor who pleaded guilty in May to crim-inaly negligent homicide in the death of Adalberto Ventura last October, was sentenced on Monday, Sept. 11, 1972, to six months in the Putnam County Jail by Judge Fred A Dickinson.The sentence will be suspendedfrom 8 p.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. on Thursday, so that St Charles, who operates a karate school in Brookfield, Conn., can continue to work.The convicted man was indicted in December for murder, manslaughter in the first degree, and first degree assault He pleaded guilty to the reduced charge in May.St. Charles, who was working as a bouncer at Gene’s White Horse Tavern in Brewster, was involved in a fight with another 28-year-old man, Adalberto Ventura of Danbury. Ventura died ten days later of head wounds allegedly received in the fight.Prior to pronouncing sentence. Judge Dickinson noted that the case still left “a rather nice question in the court’s mind as to Just how this (the death) happened—how the deceased received the blow.There’s a question If any action on your part related causally to the death of Ventura,” he told St. Charles.
