oNorway Will Treat SewageLANSING — The Village Council of Norw a\ has signed* an agreement with the Michi- gan Department of Health1 promising to construct sewage treatment facilities to prevent ' pollution of White Creek, a* tributary of the Menominee' River.* Council’s action followed a 1 conference with Michigan Department of Health engineers,’ at which evidence of pollution gathered in a joint study by the Health Department and the Water Resources Comims-' sion was presentedAlthough the community is' served b ewers* there is notreatment pro\ ided and raw sewage is discharged directly to the stream The Health Department prohibited the construction of additional sewers several years ago.Norway was singled out lor criticism last fall at a conference in Menominee with Wisconsin and Michigan officials called by the Department of Health. Education, and Welfare to discuss pollution of the Menominee River,Health Department engineers have had the situation in Norway under surveillance for about 10 years, laboratory tests of water samples collected this summei along the stream where it flows through the village and farm lands showed a high degree of pollution. particularly in areas frequented by children.
