assailant of James, in a buggy to the jail at Iudianola or Adel, in charge of two men, at eight o’clock last night, with instructions to kill him if he should attempt to escape or if confederates should try to rescue him. The mob remained around the jail until two o’clock this morning, and some gangs stayed until morning.Circumstantial proof now leaves little douot that it was Harris who killed Scribner and assaulted Kastberg, both of w hom were evidently struck as James was, with a fish plate. Harris will be lynched as soon as his whereabouts can be found, as his identity as James' assailant is clearly established. James is still alive, but the discharge of blood from the brain through he fractured skull still continues, and the doctors consider his case hopeless.Sheriff A. 1). Littleton and a deputy arrived iu our city yesterday morning with Harris in charge. Harris is a native of Indiana, 37 years old, 5 feet 10t£ inches in height, weighs 185 pounds, dark complexion, intemperate and single, and is a bad man. He felt safe after being lodged in tbe pen.
