THE POLICE.W« have got in Belfast now a Protestant Legal Defence Association, and a public meeting was held last night under its auspices. Sam Criglington, of Dungannon fame, was one of the speakers, and in a lengthened tirade abused the Royal Irish Constabulary in all the moods and tenses. The constabulary were introduced into Belfast as a force independent of local control in order that they might be in a position to discharge their duties without reference to parties. Their predecessors were appointed by the Corporation. They were a purely local body, very much out of date, and in times of trouble utterly useless as a peace-preserving organisation.
