xucauuya Hearings were me giervnie, wnose proposed uu-urnt (See HEARING on page 3A)Gettysburg child abuse information soughtHARRISBURG — Mothers of young girls are being asked to notify the state Attorney General’s Office if they have been contacted by a self-styled Gettysburg dollmanufacturer asking for permission to take nude photographs of their children.Attorney General Ernie Preate Jr. issued the call for information after agents for the Attorney General’s Child Abuse Prosecution Assistance Unit on Tuesday conducted a court-approved search of the home of Ross Amick, 47, 208 E. Middle St., in Gettysburg, and his business.Investigators reported finding three dozen Polaroid photos of young girls, some of them nude in sexually suggestive poses. Agents also found adult pornography andsexual devices.Amick operated a business called Southern General Dolls and Gifts at the Colt Heritage Museum, 241 Steinwehr Ave., Gettysburg. He formerly occupied rented space at the G.C. Murphy store on Baltimore Street in Gettysburg.Mr. Preate said his office became involved in the case at the request of the Gettysburg police after they and the state police received complaints from four mothers of children who were approached by Amick.According to the affidavit of probable cause which accompaniedthe search warrant application, Amick told the mothers he wanted the photographs for the purpose of creating a line of lifelike dolls whichhe intended to sell.Amick allegedly told the mothers he would have to photograph the girls* sexual organs in order to ensure that the dolls would be anatomically correct.There is no evidence Amick actually intended to produce such dolls, investigators noted.After local authorities contacted the Attorney General’s Office, an undercover female criminal investigator went to Amick’s doll shop posing as the mother of a pre-teen daughter and was asked for permission to take nude photos of the girl.According to the affidavit, Amick asked one of the mothers to sign a contract which contained a provision that the mother would agree not to discuss with the news media *... anything pertaining to the dolls, how they were made, what was required of us as parents or of our child as a model.” Contracts of this kind were also found during the search.Investigators said they are discussing with state and local police the possibility of filing criminal charges in the case.
