FROM OLOOaiMtOKIight Baggies Fall Of White Caps■VWefat To the Country For a Little Sport.Bloomington, Ind., Sept. 14 — Matt Sturgeon, who was white-capped near this city a few daysago, has made the followingstatement:“I was in Bloomington Satur day and returned home in the evening. I went to bed at 9 o’clock, and soon after had to get up on account of a eick baby. I was up but a short time, then went back to bed. Had just got into a doze when the front door fell with a crash. A lot of men rushed in, and two of them grabbed me before I could get out of bed. I fought them, when a third man grabbed me and struck me with his fist. While they were pulling me toward the door my night shirt was stripped from me. A fourth man then joined in the struggle and I was completely overpowered. They then took me out naked and made me hug a tree, one man holding my hands while another whipped me with a buggy whip, cutting a number of deep gashes in my back and side. They then caught my wife and whipped her. She had on her night dress. They said they were after Silas Hedger, and had a rope for him. Hedger was away from home. He was charged with running away with a weak minded girl.A neighbor says that the white-caps came from Bloomington.He saw eight buggies driving along the pike from town toward midnight.”Sturgeon formerly lived in Brown county. No effort has been made by the authorities to investigate the whitecappingcase.
