Sept. 15, 1893.Council 'Proceeding.Council ni(4. ou Monday evening in regular session, all members present.The street commissioner turned over $1 (!3 cart hire—$1 from O. A. Diehl and G3o. from W. A. Diehl.An order on tho Treasurer was granted to President Himes to pay the note for $200 due the 1st Natiou-id bank of Hanover.The Finance Committee were instructed to seo Mr. Hanr and ascertain if lie will serve as Councilman. If uot, A. C. Diehl was appointed to servo on the street committee.Tho street committee reported tho roads and streets in good condition. Also, that the foot crossings nt Em mert’s, leading to the Square, and at the Catholic church on Carlisle street, are in bad condition, and it was ordered that they be replaced by iron crossing plutes.The gutter a.t Clippinger’s, on Pitt street, was reported in bad condition.The street commissioner reported the following tools belonging to the borough: 1 mower and oil can, 2 shovels, 4 hammers, 1 sickle, 1 tamp ing hammer, 1 cart and harness, 1 wheelbarrow, scythe and and rubber,2 grubbing hoes, 1 pick.Bills to the amount of $21.48 were ordered to be paid.Mr. Gitt presented a draft of the course of Berlin street. The Fi-bclicve her latter statement and brought in a verdict of guilty. Judge Mc-Clean, m passing sentence, said Stein-our was worse than the convicted mtir* derer who would not take the stand and lie to save his neckj that he had induced the girl to swear away her sou in his behalf, and he was a dangerous man to society. He was fined $100, sentenced to the Eastern Penitentiary for thrce’years and ordered to pay the costs.John Staub was acquitted of the charge of assault and battery with in tent to commit a rape, on information of Joseph A. Crabbs, father of Carrie Crabbs, aged 6 years. The boy is 15 years old. The prosecutor was ordered to pay the costs.The case against J. Milton Myers for maintenance, on information of Rose C. Myers, was discontinued without prejudice to the rights of the wife, the defendant acknowledging himself to be the lawful husband and father of John David, the child.William De Waters plead guilty to the charge of fornication and bastardy. The Court sentenced him to pay a fine of one dollar to the Commonwealth, $100 to Charles Walter, father of the prosecutrix, the costs of prosecution, and an imprisonment for 15 days from the lime ol his commitment.The case against Mary Ann Siler was for surety of the peace. The com plaint was dismissed and the prosecutrix was ordered *to pay the costs.George Flemming plead guilty to assault and battery 011 his wife.
