(AP) — A Linn County District Court judge ruled Friday that a Cedar Rapids businessman had voluntarily pleaded guilty to anabortion charge and therefore should serve the five-year sentence imposed.The ruling came in the case of Joseph Abodeely who began serving the sentence Wednesday. He was sentenced July 24. Abodeely’s attorney’s had argued that the _ court did not have the jurisdiction to impose sentence on the grounds the plea was made because of pressures put on the defendant.In the ruling Friday, Judge Harold Vietor said, “The complete record positively established that defendant’s plea of guilty was voluntary and was entered by him with full understanding of the consequences91i i tAbodeely was accused of being a go-between in an abortion ring which came under investigation in Cedar Rapids in January, 1968.
