Cherry, was led away by officers Cameron Henson and Charles Bowling Thursday afternoon from the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River after the Department of Public Safety investigated the theft of a billfold from Woolworth’s, 222 S. Main. Reports said Wendy Hendrickson, 1403 S. Elm, had just paid for food at Woolworth’s luncheon counter and had her wallet sitting on top of her purse when it was snatched by a man who had been sitting a few stools down from her. The man last was seen running east on Second when the DPS was notified. Theresulting search nabbed the suspect about a hati-hodr later. Reports said he was found rustling in some leaves near the river bank. Money thought to have been taken from Hendrickson was found on Clark, the reports added, but the billfold was “ditched” somewhere near the river and hadn’t been found as of today. The DPS asked to thank those citizens who apparently own police scanners for reporting seeing a man running In their neighborhoods. Clark was in the county jail late this morning awaiting an initial appearance sometime this afternoon in District Court. (Photo By Steve Zuk)
