Merced Mall grenade deathspurs chargesSAN FRANCISCO — A veteran Murine has been charged with negligent homicide in the hand grenade death of a security guard at the Merced Mall shopping center in Merced.Lewis Anderson, IB, of Merced died Aug. i. six days after he was engulfed in white-hot phosphorus at the shopping center when a hand grenade from a recruiting display exploded as he was examining it.Gunnery Sgt. Egar A, Post, 38, wiil face a special court martial in the death, according to CWO Ronald Fraizcr. Post, a 19-year veteran also faces charges of failure to obey lawful regulations and dereliction of duty, Fraizer said.Post is assigned to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Stockton,He was charged after an investigation into how the grenade and several other live weapons came to bn mounted on the display board, Fraizcr said. No details of the investigation were released.The date of the court martial has not been set.
