Death sentences changed to lifeFORT WORTH, Tex. (AP) -Seven men under death sentence from larrant County juries have had their sentences reduced to life imprisonment, county officials reported.The district attorney’s office sought the commutations from the state board of pardons and paroles to prevent having to retry the cases.The action came as a result of a recent Supreme Court ruling against the death penalty.Involved were Alton Ray Witherspoon, Freddie Lee McKenzie, Theo Rae Thames, Melvin Pittman, Kenneth Allen McDuff and Reginald Edison Wright.Michael Parskar, also assessed the death sentence, rereived a commuted life sentence earlier this year by Gov. Preston Smith.
