Those arrested were part of an organization of marijuana growers on nine farms in eastern Missouri, authorities said.U.S. Attorney Stephen Higgins called the raids, carried out at 10 locations in five counties “the most extensive cooperative effort in marijuana plant seizures ever done in the eastern district ofMissouri.”The raids climaxed a nine-month investigation. This past year, Missouri passed Hawaii as the top state in eradicating marijuana.Charged with having large amounts of marijuana on farms they occupied were Willard Rhodes of Pike County, James Dixon of Lincoln County, Gail Knapp of Montgomery County, Richard Samuelson of WarrenCounty and William Davis of Lincoln County.They were charged in federal complaints filed by the U.S. Attorney’s office. Affidavits signed by agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said “large numbers” of marijuana plants were found on the farms, indicating intent to distribute it.More arrests are planned, authorities said.About 250 federal agents and state law officers from 12 agencies participated in Monday’s sweep, carrying out simultaneous raids in Warren, Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike and St. Charles counties.Marijuana was cut down, stacked and burned. Several shotguns and handguns were found at one location and pit bull dogs were found at one location, said John Sutton, special agent in charge of the DEA’s St. Louis office.
