Austrian officials revealedThe officials said Johann Hicff-ler. a former member of the Lower Austrian provincial legislature, had been forced to live in the Austrian embassy in Moscow since his release from a Soviet prison 10 months ago. They said Soviet authorities had repeatedly refused to grant Rieff-ler an exit permit, although he had been given documents showing he had finished the prison term handed dowr, by a Soviet court sn 1^46 for alleged possession of arms.The officials added that Soviet authorities had agreed informally to permit other Austrians still held prisoner in the Soviet Union to write to their relatives at home.The first such letter tc~ reach Vienna, they said, was that which informed Mrs. Anton Marek, that her husband, former chief of Austria’s political police, was serving a 25-year-term for- espionage.
