51 Two Men Arrested itt * | Emporia Beer RaidsCharles Kayhil) and Bruce Terry Charged with illegal Sale—-Three Other Searches Fa?!County and city law enforcement officers swooped down on five Emporia “night spots Saturday in a drive agaLnst the illegal sale of beer, arrested two alleged violators and confiscated six bottles* of liquor,, a large quantity of beer and several gambling devices.Simultaneous raids conducted by both county and city officers were directed at Charles Kayhlil's Pig Pen and Alvin “Red” Shuck's place, both located east of the Kafcy railroad tracks and north of Twelfth.At Kayhlil’s place a group of officers led by Undersheriff Eugene Hasting and Chief of Police Ben C. Dunan confiscated six cases of beerand six bottles of liquor. Kayhill, colored, was arrested and charged’ •with possession and sale without a license. He was released on $500 1 [ bond and his case set; for Saturday f! morning before Justice of the Peace ! Will Weils.In the raid on the Shuck place of business one bottle of beer and _ i several gambling devices were taken, Bruce Terry was arrested by Sheriff Ernest T. Owens and chargwi with -selling beer-without a i j license. He was released eh $250 _;bond, pleaded guilty before Justice i }Y?lls thfe morning and was fined j *131.75, including costs.I No Evidence Found r During the series of raids Satur-. day night police also visited three . residences of suspected bootleggers but reported that they found no . evidence. Two of the premises are f located in the northensfc part of [ town, the other in the southwest r section. No arrests were made at the three places.In addition to Sheriff Owens, undersheriff Hasting and Chief of Police Duncan, officers assisting In the raids were R. Richeson, F. T Poster and W. R. Adams, Jr.Saturday night's raids attracted the attention of R. t. McCiuggage, of 'Wichita, state director of the Kansas Committee of the United States Brewers association, who came to Emporia today to tnvesti-1J gate the Illegal sale of beer here.1 „_Mr- McCluggage praised highly the work of. the police department and sheriff’s force and expressed the appreciation of the association for the cooperation given by Byon county and Emporia law enforcement officers.
