Two Men Arrested in imporia Beer RaidsCim8TenntCharles Kayhill and Bruce e'Terry Charged with stIllegal Sale—Three Other Searches Fai!dlCounty and city law enforcement n officers swooped down on five Em- aporia “night spots'1 Saturday in amdrive against 'the illegal saltT of d‘— ---- —U1beer, arrested two alleged violators rl and confiscated six bottles' of tlt; liquor,, 2 large quantity of beer and several gambling devices. ^Simultaneous raids conducted by 8 both county and city officers were t: directed at Charles Kayhlil's Pig Pen and Alvin Red'' Shuck's place, both located east of the Kafcy railroad tracks and north of Twelfth.At Kayhill’s place a group of officers led by Undersharlff Eugene Hasting and Chief of Police Ben C. Dunan confiscated six cases of beerand six bottles of liquor. Kayhill, colored, was arrested and charged with possession and sale without a license. He was released on $500 ,. bond and his case set. for Saturday ■! morning before Justice of the Peace ; Will Wells.In the raid on the Shuck place of business one bottle of beer and i several gambling devices were taken, Bruce Terry was arrested by Sheriff Ernest T. Owens and chargedwith;selling beer..without a LI “cense- He was released eh $250 ;b°nd, pleaded guilty before Justicei }Yflls tnte coming and was fined [ 5i31.75, including costa.! h’o Evidence FoundDuring the series of raids Saturday night police also visited three residences of suspected bootleggers but reported that they found no evidence. Two of the premises are located in the northesfc part of town, the other in the southwest section. No arrests were made at the three places.In addition to Sheriff Owens, undersheriff Hasting and Chief of Police Duncan, officers assisting in the raids were R. Bicheson, T. T Poster and W. R. Adams, Jr.Saturday night’s raids attracted the attention of R. T. McCluggage, of Wichita, state director of the Kansas Committee of the United States Brewers association, who came to Emporia today to investigate the illegal sale of beer here.Mr. McCl'uggage praised highly the work of the police department and sheriff’s force and expressed the appreciation of the association for the cooperation given by Byort county and Emporia law enforcement officers.
