Three Sailors From the Chester Come to Grief Police officers from the City Hall avenue station and sailors of the U. S. S. scout cruiser Chester engags in a running fight along Washington street, from Elm to State street, about 10:30 last night. Three sailors were arrested and one officer was injured, while another rolled in the street with a prisoner. OFFICER HART Patrolman Dennis Buckley was treated at the Relief Hospital for a fractured knuckle of the left hand. He was unable to resume duty. Officer James Clougherty, the first officer on the firing line, was jumped upon by two sailors while he had another under arrest, but did not sustain any bruises. The arrested sailors are Howard L. Peay, 20, Eugene Dunn, 22, and Charles Dieuben, 19 years old, all of whom are on the Chester. Peay was the first man grabbed. The police say that he was fighting with a citizen at Washington and Elm streets. A big crowd had collected, and the pair were punching and feinting when Officer Clougherty came along. The officer was taking Peay to the station house. At State and Washing ton street Clougherty found all kinds of trouble. Two sailors had jumped upen his back and attempted to res cue Peay, it is charged. The officer, with his prisoner, rolled in the street until reinforcements came in the per sons of Patrolman Rowe, O'Brien and Buckley. Then a general mixup fol lowed. Timid spectators scattered as the sailors and officers fought for su premacy. In short order the officers obtained the upper hand, and the prisoners were marched to the station house, followed by a laughing and jeering crowd.
