VALLEJO RAISES NUMBER OF SALOONS TO FIFTY-FIVEVALLEJO, Cal., Sept. 8.—The hoard of city trustees last night passed an ordinance increasing the number of saloons here from fifty to fifty-five, the number specified by the havy lt;department four years ago, lejo was forced to reduce the number of saloons and raise the license, under a threat that if this were not done warships would be kept away from Mare island as much as possible.The affiliated temperance committee, which was instrumental in securing the former action by the navy department, will take the matter UP with the Washington authorities, it isbelieved.
