Thieves,—On Monday, tho 21st inst., Henry Hoyt, a coloured man, living in this village, wai taken up for theft and on examination was committed to gaol to await his trial. On Thursday ho was tried before three magistrates, and being found guilty was sentenced to close confinement in tho gaol for a short time, and has from the magistrate who pronounced tho sentence upon him, the promise of a whipping on his bare back, should he again be found guilty of the same crime.—Carport Sentinel.
