BULLOCH.Whereas, a Ebtl bath this day been Sled in the admiralty court of the United States of America, by William Davies, the attorney of the said United states for the district of Georgia, stating, that a certain armed brig or vessel, called the General Sait Martin, arrived in the port of Savannah, in the district aforesaid, on the day of the pra-senunonth of August, and that4be said brig nowithin the jurisdiction of ibis hon-rices at anchor within the jurisdiction orable court) that at the time the said brig arriv. ?d in the said port of Savannah, she was not under the command of any officer or officers, -but was entirely und r the control and in the possession of her crew, and that the said brig had been sounder :he control and in tLe possession of her crew, from the fourth d^ of this present month of Au-;ut, who on that day, as the said attorney is ad-vised, divested the officers of said brig of all authority over her and her crew; that previously to the said fourth d»£ of August aforesaid, the said brig the General San Martin had been commanded by one William J. Stafford, a citizen of the Uuited States of America, and who. for unlawful purposes, has assumed the name of Jose Guiller-mo Estafano;—tlie said attorney further alleges and informs this honorable court, that the said William J. Stafford, while in the command of the said brig and of the officers and crew thereof, did, for the space of one month and upwards, immediate-, ly proceeding the aforesaid fourth day of August, in the present year of our Lord, one thousand-eight hundred and eighteen, cruize and sail in and -with the said brig General San Martin, upon the ( high seas in quest-of plunder, and with the design, to seize and take unprotected properly, without jany commission or lawful authority so to dp; thatr officethe said William J. Stafford, and die other and crow of the said brig the General San Martin, did within the time aforesaid, to wit, on or about the fifteenth day of August, in the year aforesaid, in, upon, and with the said brig, and without an) commission or authority from any prince, potentate, state, people or government, whatsoever, piratically and felonousiy «capture, seize and take hpon the high and open seas, a certain brig 01 vessel, called, ms the said attorney hath been informed, the San Josef, laden with »•*«»*»te cargo, then in the jamwri— of and belonging to certain subjects of bis Catholic majesty the Icing of Spain, and lawfully and peaceably prosecutinga voyage, to the said attorney at present unknown; and the said attorney further avers, that the aaidWilliam J. Stafford, by means of the power and force of the aaid brig the General San Martin, earned the said Spanish brig the San Josef and hercargo, to places unknown to him, and there se-elly disponey further informs this honorable court, that thecretly disposed of the same;—and the said altor-said brig the General San Martin, her tackle, aj-parol and furniture, together with her armament, guns, ammunition and stores, are owned by a citizen or citizens of tbe United States of America;— that by reason of which said sere rid premises, the said brig tbe General San Martin, her tackle, apparel and furniture, with her armament, guns, ammunition and stores, are, and of right ought tobe, condemned and atUudged to the use of the id United States, as tne property of firm a.
