MISSING:Kirkland was interviewed about his wifefrom 1C“Sonny” Davis in Tuesday night’s primary.Peel said Thursday that one of his investigators and an investigator from State Attorney Jim Ap-pleman’s office interviewed Kirkland before his death in con-nection with his wife’s disappearance.On Wednesday Peel’s deputies dug up ground at “a couple ofplaces” searching for Mrs. Kirkland.Today, deputies will take a “cadaver dog” to the Kirkland Motor Co. property to search for Mrs. Kirkland’s body, Peel said. Peel said the dog, a black Labrador retriever, is the property of a sheriff’s department in Wisconsin and is trained to locate bodies.Peel said Wednesday in a release that earlier interviews with Kirkland and with his acquaintances indicated Kirkland “had displayed some recent depression.”The Kirklands also had been going through a divorce, which Mrs. Kirkland filed on June 29 in the Washington County Courthouse after nearly 20 years of marriage.Both of the Kirklands had been placed under restraining orders July 17, but no final hearing was held on the divorce.
