m:ito rnum meFROM OYER THE R1YERDeputy Sheriff “Ruggie” Moore Ardently Champions Mrs.*Kolin’s Cause.EMBARRASSING PREDICAMENTCaught by the Stove ia a Kailroad Train— Newport Republicars Eleot Delegates to the OougressioBal Convention.Deputy Sheriff William (“Ruggle”) Moore, one of the Deputies who had Mrs. Kolin in charge when she was taken to the asylum last Saturday, made the following statement in reference to the affair:“I see by to-day’s Commercial Gazette that Rev. Means makes the statement tha’t ibe information given out by me was incorrect in every particular. Now I want to state that I will make an affidavit to the following facts: That Kolin did give Mrs. Kolin a powder on -'the train before reaching Walton, Ky., and that previous to the time of taking said powder Mrs. Kolin was as calm as any one on the train. That when the train reached Walton Rev. Kolin left his wife in my charge, stating that he was going into the smoker, and would return in a few moments. He then left the train, and stopped at Walton. When the train pulled out Mrs. Kolin missed her husband, and requested that he be asked to come to her. When she became convinced that he was not on the brain she broke down and wept bitterly. She then stated that her husband had tired of her, and that he was trying to send her to the asylum.“Another reason that she gave for his action was that she would not allow herself to renounce her religion, as he had done. She displayed a Catholic medal which she wore on her breast. She said that on last Thursday she washed the entire day, and that the next day she did the ironing for the family. The following day she was packed off to the Asylum. She had been tried and adjudged to be of unsound mind, without ever being brought into the Court-room, or any of the jurymen seeing her, she claims. I conversed with Mrs. Kolin all of the way to the Asylum, and a more rational person I never saw or talked with. I have taken any number of lunatics rto the Asylum, and felt that I certainly would have found some sign of insanity, had she been insane. Her mother, in Kirksville, Mo., has been notified, and an answer is .expected In a day or two. Upon its receipt I intend to investigate the matter thoroughly.”—An amusing incident occurred on the last train from Latonia yesterday, that caused one person at least considerable inconveni-
