MURDER.This the Charge Now Against Wm. J. McGuire.DIES.iYesterday morning in the inferior criminal court a warrant was sworn out before Judge Alford charging W. J. McGuire with murder, the charge being changed from assault with intent to murderafter the death of Samuel D. Rees, whom McGuire shot Saturday afternoon.McGuire is still confined in jail where he was sent shortly after he surrendered at the sheriff’s office. Judge Alford «aid yesterday af-, ternoon that the date for the examining trial had not been decided upon.The tragedy has afforded a topic of discussion and various opinions of the matter have been discussed. Many told that McGuire is not of sound mind. Generally he remains quiet at the jail, but at times becomes restless and nervous. The deputies say there is no truth in the rumor that he attempted to commit suicide in his cell. They say that he is watched closely and the opportunity is not given him even to make the attempt.The stationery and toy store of McGuire is closed and none of the members of the family will talk for publication. Special attention given to work-sent in.Shot by Brother-in-law W. J. McGuire Satuiday Afternoon.Samuel D. Rees, who was shot Saturday afternoon by his brother-in-law, William J. McGuire, in the store of the latter on Dauphin street, died at Providence Infirmary about 5 o’clock Sunday morning.After being shot by McGuire, Rees was removed to the Providence Infirmary, where an operation was performed about 11 o’clock Saturday night by Dr. G. H. Fonde, assisted by Dr. Rhett Goode. The operation was for the purpose ofclosing two perforations in thelarge intestines caused by the bullet which entered the abdomen. Rees continued to sink and died about 5 o’clock Sunday morning.The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock from Providence Infirmary, Rev. W. P. Dickinson, pastor of the Government Street Methodist Church, conducting the services. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery and Rescue Lodge, No. 24, Knights of Pythias, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body and performed the last rites at the grave. The pall bearers were: W. H. Fergurson, Phil Start/., D. W. McGaughev, H. Ledebur, Ernest Huband, XV. T. Hieronymus.Samuel D. Rees was born in Vir ginia nearly fifty-two years ago. He had been a resident of Mobile county eighteen years, having been in the produce commission business in Mobile some vears, but resided at Kush la at the time of his death He married a sister of McGuire, but she died several weks ago. He is survived by one son, J. C. McGuire Rees, a young man.Rees was well and favorably known and was of a quiet, retiring disposition. He was never known to have been implicated in a serious difficulty.
