Mr. Bethell was a seat or two behind the prisoner and before he realized wbat bad happened, the negro made-tf dash for the car door and jumped from the train. Sheriff Johnston* j - -came on to town, procured a horse and went in jmrsuit of the escaped prisoner. The dusky fellow was a good sprinter and made good his escape through the fields east of town, The fellow had a deep scar across one side of his face and it is thought he is wanted oh a serious charge.Another negro, who was arrested on the same charge, and who was being taken to the Sallisaw jail by Deputy Shoate, jumped from- the train while running at a high speed near Hanson and made his escapeinto the timber.*Jumping from moving trains seem to be a favorite method of escape by many of the prisoners.
