HELD BACK A MOB.Two Men Keep Eighty From Lynchingan Italian.Davenport, August 31.—By the unarmed intervention of George Cook and Harvey Lillard, a hired man on the Cook country place eight miles from this city, Gus Teros, a Greek laborer, who had used a revolver in a quarrel with other section men, was saved from lynching at the hands of eighty of his infuriated compatriots Saturday afternoon. They drove him into a building on the Cook farm where the two men interfered and stood guard over him until officers and a possee of citizens summoned by tele phone arrived from Buffalo, a couple of miles away.The hunted man in fear of his life was taken to Buffalo and placed in jail. Young Cook, whose coolness and nerve saved the man’s life, is a professor at Lei and Stanford university, and author of “Roderick Taliaferro,” one of the popular novels of the year.
