He said he was passing down town with a friend, when he came to the place where the disturbance took place. When he saw the officer running after the man, he and • his friend and a number of others followed, and while in the yard looking on he re* ceived the shot. His account substantially corroborates that of Policeman Woulfe, excepting that he thinks the Policeman 8 shot at the fellow twice before catching up Q with him, and several of the bystanders I agree with him.f Woulfe told our reporter that when strug-| gling with the man he called on S. P. I Stitzman, one of the street railway bosses, I for assistance; that the latter refused, tell-I ing “Charley” that he wouldI “olVE RIM FAIR PLAY.”I This statement is also made by several of 1 the witnesses, although they are divided I as to whether Stetzman hit the Policeman 1 as claimed by the latter. Our reporterI called upon Stetzman at the stable, and from him learned in substance the follow*ing:WHAT STETZMAN SAYS.The man who did the sbootiug is named Charles Young, and he has been in the employ of the company five or six weeks. He came from Chicago and seems to have been in number of fights, judging from the scars which he bears, and the loss of three fiogers from his left hand, which have apparently been shot off. On yesterday afternoon he left the stable and drank some whisky, which ended up in a fight with another man to whom he administered a sound thrashing. Returning to the stable he seemed so much intoxicated that another man was ordered to do his work. He went to supper and complained of feeling bad, after which he left the barn. He soonRETURNED OT A RUN,passing through into the yard, followed by the officer. Stetzman and the other employes supposed when they first heard the noise that Young had renewed the fight of the afternoon and was being pursued by his antagonist. Mr. S. denies striking the officer, or bearing him call for assistance.About half past, nine o’clock Chief of Police Singleton, officers Patton and K^intz and Constable Robbins went to the street ear stable in search of Young. They state that the railway hands refused to give them a lamp. They, however, secured two lights and entered an empty lot thickly covered with tall weedB, and lo-wcated directly opposite the barn. There they found Young, lying down withTHE REVOLVER COCKED BY HIS SIDE.He made no resistance and was taken to the calaboose and locked up. Stetzman was also arrested, aud pi aced in an adjoining cage*This morning they were brought before bis honor, the Mayor, and it was found that Woulfe was too weak to appear, and Young was placed under bond of $2,000, but could not find it and went to jail.Stetzman was placed under bonds of $400 to appear this afternoon at 7 o’clock.
