A POLICEMAN SHOT.Excitement at the South DepoLast Evening.The Han Arrested.About 7 o'clock last evening, news wa spread over the city that a policeman halt; been shot. Immediately a Sentinel re porter started for the scene of the blood' I affray, aud found it was at the South do | pot, and on arriving there found that Did Woulff had been shot by one Cbarie; Young. It seems the policeman was com iug down street to go on duty, and whei near Herbsts boarding house close to tblt; depot* he heard a man using indecent lan guage and talking very loud* He tolc him to keep still, but he would not take any orders from the policeman, whereupon he arrested him, wheu the man struck the policeman two severe blows in the head. He at once started to run and the policeman followed him. He ran East on Maujneotreet into iha.. Attsaai cm* wherethe policeman had a struggle with him aud in the struggle Young brought iuto use a fire arm, discharging three loads one of which took effect in the left arm of the officer, and the other in the left arm of a spectator named Monroe McNamara, employed in the wheel room of N. G. Olds Sod’s Factory.HE THEN RAN AWAYwith the revolver in his hand, no one mak-ng any attempt to stop him.The policeman was taken to Aug. F. Selle’s drug store, and afterwards to Dr. W. H. Myers’ office. The Doctor exam ined the wound, finding that the ball had taken an upward course, flattening itself against the bone and lodging near the elbow, from which place Dr. Myers extracted it*The other wounded man, McNamara, was removed to his boarding place, No. 457 Lafayette street, where he was shortly after visited by Dr. Myers. The ball took a somewhat similar course to the one in the policeman’s arm, passing out below the elbow, leaving au ugly and painful, but not necessarily dangerous flesh wound.
