Paid guard to fish in closed area at Hunter BayKETCHIKAN lt;/P A southeastern Alaska Fish and Wildlife Service stream guard and seven commercial fishermen were under arrest today on charges of bribery and conspir acv to allow two boat to fish in closed waters.The fishermen included George Mackie, Ketchikan, captain of the fish packer Fairbanks; and Frank Jones, 26, skipper of the seiner Brae. The arrests were announced by the Feder al Bureau of Investigation.The FBI named the other six men as:Lewis Staudt. 27. the stream guard: and Andrew and CecilDyakanoff, Carl Noon, John Jensen and Ed Polk, all crewmen of the Brae.Staudt w’as accused, the FBI saia, of accepting bribes on four occasions, totaling $350, to allow the Brae to fish in Huntei Bay. which has been closed to commercial fishing. Staudt is 27.Mackie, of the Fairbanks, was accused of giving Staudt $250 of the $350 he allegedly re ceived and Jones, of the Brae, the remaining S100. the FBI an nounced.The illegal fishing wTas reported to have occurred on Aug 16. 18, 24 and 29 in the South Prince of Walas fishing districtJones and Staudt and twro of the men were arraigned in Ket chikan commissioner's court court yesterday. Their total bail was set at $3,500. A deputy U. S. marshal and FBI agent went to Craig to arrest some of the men.
