Myers Co., that was passing up the ivenue at the time. The negro several tstne* attempted to prevent theia»«age of the team by grabbing hoid of the horse’s check rein.It was net long after Officer Jackson placed the negro under arrest, that he wrenched away from him and darted up College avenue. Patrolman Jackaon fired his revolver into the air, thinking that this would frighten the fleeing negro to a halt. But on the darkey sjed. turning the comer ofBladen street with the officer about twenty yards behind.He darted into Jefferson fiae. a »arrow tan». with the officer close behind. but at the direction of several negroes of the neighborhood,he eluded the officer by going through the back /ard of the rei idence of Mr. William E. Feldmeyer. of College aveaur. Hj then disappeared down Northwest street.The police have a good description of the negro and they expect to landhim before nightfall.
