This fact, it appears, was the basis for bad feeling between the two families. Saturday evening, it is said the children of Mrs. Barton were playing in the street near the Streeter home and it i3 charged caused some worry to the Streeter family. The story told by Barton to the officers is that Barton and Mrs. Arms, who is the daughter of Streeter, were the first participants in the dispute. The next entry- to the ring of allegedj belligerents was Arms,tben Mrs. Barton was announced into* / '•the circle, we are told, and following her it is said that ’Squire Streeter and his-wife made their little debut. From reports there was some slagging. It is told that Barton whipped Arms and that he also took a poke at Streeter, that Streeter struck Barton and Mrs. Barton, that Arms struck Barton andvthat all the women present either used their tongues, their hands \ or some other useful part of their body.It was in the heat of the battle that the peace maker appeared.
